Compost Driver- Closed

STATUS: Position: Closed

NOLA Green Roots is hiring a part-time compost driver for 3 mornings a week.

DUTIES:
- Pick up and drop off compost cans to our restaurant partners in the New Orleans metro area
- Empty and clean compost cans at our garden sites
- Weigh compost cans and report to main office
- Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must know how to drive a pick-up truck.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Able to lift 80+ pounds
- Able to pass background check
- Previous experience in transportation and/or waste management preferred
- Honest and hardworking

Competitive hourly pay + mileage credit.

Animal Supervisor- Closed

Green Roots is hiring a part-time chicken supervisor to tend our coops mornings and afternoons at our Mid-City community gardens.

DUTIES:
- Maintain correct feed & water levels
- Clean and repair chicken coops
- Harvest, clean and package eggs
- Log & report any problems with hens
- Clean areas immediately surrounding coops
- Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Some experience with chickens or other livestock preferred
- Good communications skills
- Must be detail-oriented and accurate
- Able to pass background check
- Honest and hardworking
- Must be willing to work 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Competitive hourly pay.

Office Manager- Fill

OFFICE MANAGER

NOLA Green Roots is hiring an Office Manager. The ideal candidate is outgoing, has a positive attitude and can operate in a fast-paced environment. You will support the executive staff to keep office functions running smoothly for a growing network of community gardens.

DUTIES:

  • Receive visitors to the main office
  • Field telephone calls and forward to the appropriate staff
  • Typing, data entry and filing
  • Keep office supplies stocked
  • Manage the executive staff calendar
  • Timekeeping for all staff
  • Processing mail and bank deposits and light bookkeeping
  • Keep the main office presentable at all times
  • Assist with other duties in the garden as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One or more years of administrative experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft office, email, databases, PC/MAC)
  • 45 wpm typing, 9000 keystrokes data entry
  • Must pass background check
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Interest in gardening, agriculture, community development helpful
  • Some college preferred but not required
  • Spanish speaking is a plus!

Competitive hourly pay.

NOLA Green Roots is hiring a part-time Director of Operations. The ideal candidate is outgoing, community-focused and able to operate in a fast-paced environment to help us grow our membership and volunteer base. You will work intensively with the community, supporting them in using the gardens as an educational resource. You will be responsible for recruiting and overseeing members/volunteers who will work to prepare, plant, harvest, and care for the garden as well as reaching to the community about the program and assisting with fundraising events.

DUTIES:

  • Recruit, orient and train members & volunteers
  • Distribute assignments, meeting dates and other communications to members and volunteers
  • Ensure members and volunteers complete their assigned tasks
  • Manage basket deliveries; report problems to executive staff
  • Conduct membership and develop committee meetings
  • Assist with other duties in the garden as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience with outreach, membership and/or volunteer management preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage large numbers of people
  • Computer skills (email, database, social media)
  • Able to pass background check
  • Spanish speaking is a plus!
